Love Football Golf in Dublin + Some Poker Talk
October 13, 2017Will the Cash Game Festival’s TV Table Trophy Go to Ireland?
October 15, 2017The only thing that could “shatter” our world on day 3 here in Dublin was the news of hurricane Ophelia moving towards Ireland. The tail end of the hurricane is said to hit the island by late Monday and the strongest effects are expected to be felt on the West coast. Hopefully, the lovely Irish people remain safe and everybody gets to fly home and without any delays in their flight schedules. So far, the locals do not seem to be worried at all, saying that they never get hurricanes in Ireland. Let’s then not worry either. Worrying is useless; only actions matter.
In the afternoon of this windy and rainy day in Dublin, the CGF project manager Andro Loos was busy practicing his Irish accent in the Village Green Card Club. Despite his efforts, it still sounded like Chinese. Well, he has two more days to get it right. There is always hope.
Since yesterday was Friday 13th, it is proper to point out that Irish are known to be a superstitious folk. So, here is some random superstition from the IrishCentral:
“If you get your shirt wet while you’re washing the dishes you will marry a drunk.“
Well, seems that nobody from the team is in danger of marrying a drunk. One thing we never have to do during CGF live events is doing dishes. We are too busy with poker and having fun with the players to even think about dishes. Besides, we live in a hotel and our food is served by the caring hands of the card club staff or restaurant waitresses, so we are definitely on the safe side when it comes to doing dishes and wet shirts. Phew!
In terms of poker, Friday night was good as, again, we managed to tie the card club’s record of 5 simultaneously running cash game poker tables. Moreover, the first Sviten Special table of our Dublin stop kicked off after midnight and the game lasted till the early morning hours. Despite the Unofficial King of Sviten Special, Peter La Terra from Sweden, not being in Dublin, the players managed to enjoy the game. Must be all the Guinness that was helping to fuel the atmosphere in the cozy poker club.
Also, seems that the Irish poker legend Andy Black had enjoyed CGF day 2 poker action so much, that he returned yesterday for some €5/€10 hold’em action. The high-stakes poker game was running well into the early morning hours. We feel very proud that high-caliber poker players enjoy our live events. Means that we must be doing something right. Of course, with all seriousness, we appreciate each one of you that comes out to play. We have many regulars who have made good friends with the whole team. We truly value having such wonderful friends from across Europe, even from more distant countries. The CGF is and will always be about people.
After yesterday’s 2 live TV table sessions, Ireland’s Kevin Malone is still in the lead in the run for our TV table trophy with €11000 or 550 big blinds that he managed to win on day 2 at our €1/€2 hold’em live TV table. We sure do hope that the trophy will remain in Ireland this time. And that we could host an Irish player at our Tallinn stop in the glamorous Olympic Park Casino on Nov. 15-19.
Great news! Monika is back in the scene. Namely the Polish poker pro and Betsafe’s ambassador Monika Zukowicz returned to the CGF after “surviving” the epic chicken piri piri prop bet with the CGF’s co-founder Franke. The prop bet sent her to about 8000 km road trip across Europe in an old Slowball car to pick up chicken piri piri take-away dish for Franke this summer. The trip was, indeed, hard for her – imagine driving an old car with no A/C in the Southern European August heat. But in many ways, the journey was life-changing for her, and in September she already embarked on an adventure in Las Vegas. This poker lady knows how to enjoy life. There something to learn from her positive attitude.
On day 3, we also had a lovely chat with Jay (edit: in the feature image), a professional poker masseuse who, for the past 7 years, has been traveling from one live poker event to another. Since her schedule is so busy, she does not have a permanent place to stay because most of her days are spent on the road. However, rather surprisingly, her dream is to live in Greenland one day. Wow, girl! We hope you can fulfill this dream of yours. Jay also opened up about the spiritual side of her work. Namely, on her days off, she likes to go to meditation retreats to recharge her batteries. Since meditation is about being in the moment 100%, she also feels that her job is spiritual because she lives in the moment when working at live events. She loves the poker world vibes and the fact that players from very different cultures come together and play. “There is no discrimination,” she says, meaning that the poker family is beyond cultural differences.
On this Friday 13th, we simply needed to have a good hearty meal. So, we were heading to an Irish pub called An Poitin Stil. We were also joined by the lovely wife of JP Mc Cann. She told us the story of how an American girl fell in love with an Irish man and made Ireland her new home. Super romantic, one must add. We are so happy for you guys.
Today, on Saturday, there is time for some serious dog racing. Namely, the team and the players are taken to Shelbourne Park Dog Track where we see how the real dog race is being organized. Moreover, everyone will get a complimentary bet! Don’t mind the copious amount of Guinness to be served either.
Ireland, we LOVE you! <3
