The only thing that could “shatter” our world on day 3 here in Dublin was the news of hurricane Ophelia moving towards Ireland. The tail end of the hurricane is said to hit the island by late Monday and the strongest effects are expected to be felt on the West coast. Hopefully, the lovely Irish people remain safe and everybody gets to fly home and without any delays in their flight schedules. So far, the locals do not seem to be worried at all, saying that they never get hurricanes in Ireland. Let’s then not worry either. Worrying is useless; only actions matter.
In the afternoon of this windy and rainy day in Dublin, the CGF project manager Andro Loos was busy practicing his Irish accent in the Village Green Card Club. Despite his efforts, it still sounded like Chinese. Well, he has two more days to get it right. There is always hope.
Since yesterday was Friday 13th, it is proper to point out that Irish are known to be a superstitious folk. So, here is some random superstition from the IrishCentral:
“If you get your shirt wet while you’re washing the dishes you will marry a drunk.“
Well, seems that nobody from the team is in danger of marrying a drunk. One thing we never have to do during CGF live events is doing dishes. We are too busy with poker and having fun with the players to even think about dishes. Besides, we live in a hotel and our food is served by the caring hands of the card club staff or restaurant waitresses, so we are definitely on the safe side when it comes to doing dishes and wet shirts. Phew!
In terms of poker, Friday night was good as, again, we managed to tie the card club’s record of 5 simultaneously running cash game poker tables. Moreover, the first Sviten Special table of our Dublin stop kicked off after midnight and the game lasted till the early morning hours. Despite the Unofficial King of Sviten Special, Peter La Terra from Sweden, not being in Dublin, the players managed to enjoy the game. Must be all the Guinness that was helping to fuel the atmosphere in the cozy poker club.
Also, seems that the Irish poker legend Andy Black had enjoyed CGF day 2 poker action so much, that he returned yesterday for some €5/€10 hold’em action. The high-stakes poker game was running well into the early morning hours. We feel very proud that high-caliber poker players enjoy our live events. Means that we must be doing something right. Of course, with all seriousness, we appreciate each one of you that comes out to play. We have many regulars who have made good friends with the whole team. We truly value having such wonderful friends from across Europe, even from more distant countries. The CGF is and will always be about people.
