March 23, 2018Beer & Poker in Bratislava This Week
April 5, 2018The Cash Game Festival is going to Bratislava for the first time ever on April 4th – 8th. We are continuously trying to expand our “cash game territory”, so that you would have more interesting time traveling on your poker vacation with us. In Slovakia, our festival is taking place at Banco Casino Bratislava which is a new and a cozy casino right at the heart of the capital city. Wondering why this casino is our choice #1? Banco Casino has the biggest poker room in Slovakia. This means more action and more comfort for you!
Just so you would not have to wander around aimlessly in the lovely Bratislava, take advantage of this useful list we have put together for you, so that you can make the most of your time in the city. We have done all the hard work for you by gathering some information. Make sure to sign up for the festival and join us and MPN Poker Tour for a great poker vacation in the capital of Slovakia.
Prices
Bratislava is still not yet the biggest tourist magnet in Europe. However, its proximity to Vienna does attract more and more visitors. The city will be especially interesting for those looking for something cheaper and different.
So, what could be the daily budget for your getaway? According to Budgetyourtrip.com, 62 € is the average daily price for Bratislava. The average price of food for one day is about 26 €; the average price of a hotel for a couple is 60 €. For your information, these average travel prices have been collected from other travelers to help you plan your own budget better.
Moreover, hotels and hostels in Bratislava are very good value by European standards. The Bratislava Old Town is very popular and worth spending a bit more if you would like to enjoy the city center during your stay. However, here is our suggestion for accommodation bookings – for the best poker vacation hotel deals, visit Maineventravel.com.
We are not aiming to be your Bratislava beer guide. However, hear us out about this one! According to Welcometobratislava.eu, in most cases, beer can be cheaper than water there. For example, a 0,3 l beer costs from 1,20 € while a bottle of 0,5 l mineral will cost about 1,50 €. So, beer it’s going to be – a manly way to get hydrated on and off the felt.
Is Bratislava Safe?
According to Bratislavaguide.com, there is very little violent crime in Bratislava. The worst that could potentially happen is “running into a drunk bunch at night”. In general, visitors to Bratislava report feeling very safe around the city even in the evening.
Although Bratislava is one of the safest cities in Europe, you would still want to be mindful of pickpockets and petty theft. Especially important for poker players, because well, let’s face it – there are going to be some bank notes on the table.
For shopping and fun, you do not need to carry a lot of cash around. Cards are accepted in the majority of pubs, bars, restaurants and shops. There are, however, exceptions as well. So, it is best to always ask the staff before your purchase.
Things to Eat
There are many international dining options in Bratislava. Finding local food can be a challenge. At the same time, eating locally has an added bonus – it can be cheaper. So, when at the Cash Game Festival’s Bratislava stop, you could ask the local players for the best places to enjoy Slovakian cuisine. Why not, got out and have dinner with them.
You maybe wondering what exactly is the typical Slovakian food? Well, it has some certain staples, such as potatoes, onions, meat, and dairy. One could say it is a hearty cuisine!
To start with, for the authentic Slovakian experience, we recommend two places. Bratislavský Meštiansky Pivovar comes with authentic Slovakian food in a modern interior. Prices are reasonable, their meals hearty and filling. You will not leave hungry.
Like having your meals with beer and in a pub? Slovak Pub will then serve you well. They offer tasty Slovakian food in a relaxed atmosphere. The place has an authentic feel and is very welcoming.
Sightseeing
Almost every city has at least one must-see sight. Bratislava sightseeing tour will offer you more than one nice place to visit.
If you are after a perfect Instagram shot, start with Bratislava Castle which is definitely the landmark of the city. Also known as Hrad, the construction sits on a hill overlooking the city. The castle is home to museums – the History Museum and the National Museum – and offers a panoramic views of the city. Pick a cloudy day for your museum visit and a sunny day for the view.
Would you like to get even better view of the city and the castle? Then you simply must visit Novy Most Bridge’s observation deck – a flying saucer-shaped platform sitting at about 85 meters high. There is a popular, yet expensive restaurant UFO up there too. However, one needs to make reservations to be able to “sky dine” there.
Did you know that Bratislava has its very own White House? Take a walk to Grassalkovich Palace or Grasalkovičov palác, the residence of the President of Slovakia. Completed in 1760, the building is still proudly standing, situated in a huge, open park with a Baroque garden that is open to the public, even when the President is in residence.
Nightlife
According to Visitbratislava.com, the clubbing scene in this relatively small city is lively. Apparently, the rumor has it that Vienna visitors get often lured across the border to party in Bratislava, especially in the Old Town area. Sounds like you could have fun there too.
Ever dreamed of partying in dungeons? Bratislava nightlife may just have a spot for you. Visit the former military bunkers beneath Bratislava Castle. Subclub is Bratislava’s cult underground spot. It is well known to DJs and ambiance. This former bomb shelter has already hosted legendary dance parties for at least two generations. Now it is your turn to pay your respect to the cool nighttime venue.
So, what are you waiting for? Kick off your spring poker vacation in Bratislava with the Cash Game Festival!
If you can’t make it to our Bratislava stop, there’s another charming city waiting for you at the end of April. Namely, on April 25th – 29th, the Cash Game Festival will have it’s 3rd live event of 2018 in the glamorous Olympic Park Casino right at the heart of Tallinn. To plan your games and TV table action ahead of time, we recommend that you register for Tallinn stop already now.
Life’s good!
