Welcome to the Cash Game Festival Online Day 1
October 24, 2016Welcome to the Cash Game Festival Online Day 2
October 25, 2016[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]We sat down with Daniel “Danshreddies” O’Callaghan to get a little insight into his poker past and his thoughts on streaming. “Danshreddies” will be streaming on October 24 on both his individual stream and the feature table.
“Danshreddies” has an interesting poker career with him once being a sponsored pro at PKR Poker and providing streaming content in the past for partypoker.
You can check out “Danshreddies” on his Twitch channel and the Cash Game Festival Twitch channel.
When and how did you get into poker?
I got into poker about seven years ago. I started playing at university. It might be longer, as I have stopped counting so I don’t feel so old.
When did you start streaming?
I started streaming a few years ago as part of an article I was writing for Pokerplayer Magazine. I write every month and you can check it out at pokerplayer365.com. At first I only streamed casually. However, last year I began streaming consistently with partypoker, but that died out after I was in Last Vegas for a two month stint at the World Series of Poker. I haven’t streamed since but am looking forward to rekindling it starting with the Cash Game Festival Online.
Does it help your poker game to be streaming? What do you like most about doing it?
I think streaming helps your discipline, since you have a rail full of people (along with the odd troll) waiting to pounce. You don’t want to give them ammunition and look stupid.
What stakes and games do you plan on playing during your stream for the Cash Game Festival Online?
I am not entirely sure and plan to play it by ear.
Who is your favourite player?
David Katai is my favourite. He’s a boss! He reads the game so well and follows through with it. Since I’m a station, anyone who snaps bluffs with q high gets my thumbs up.
We understand that you were a pro for a short-time with PKR Poker. What was that like?
Being a sponsored pro was fun. It was brief since PKR was sold shortly after I was signed. They scrapped the whole team when they became part of Microgaming. Like many, I grew up in poker by chasing the dream and I was so proud to wear the patches. It gave me a real sense of achievement. As there are far far better players than me out there, I knew how lucky I was to be given the opportunity.
You had a deep run in the WSOP Main Event, how was your experience even thought you bubbled?
It was my second time playing the WSOP Main Event. I previously played in 2015, but I busted early by a cooler. It was fun, but it was a huge slog. You don’t realise how draining it is. Playing for three days straight for no money sucked too. I finished about half an hour from the money with a good stack. I probably didn’t need to get it in, but I got it in in great shape so I can’t regret it too much. Still, the hand probably cost me somewhere between $16,000 and $8 million. So this was the biggest three-outer I was ever hit with.
We understand you were caught on TV on William Kassouf’s rail? What did you think of his play?
Ha! Yeah! I made my ESPN debut! However, from the rail it was really hostile. The coverage made it look like Will was having a slagging match when he was all in, but this wasn’t the case at all. He said one or two things while the whole room was hurling abuse at him. I think he handled it well. I can see how his table talk would be annoying, but I just drink with him so it’s fine. When he drinks he actually slows down to a normal talking pace. OK, that last sentence isn’t true.
Where would be your dream destination to attend a land-based Cash Game Festival?
My dream cash game destination is probably somewhere like the Caribbean. The sun is a great de-tilter.
