March 7, 2018Jouer en cash game – En avril, ne te découvre pas d’un chips!
March 12, 2018Over the years, at the Cash Game Festival live events, we have met many wonderful women who love poker. They are all smart, beautiful and fun. Today, on the International Women’s Day (IWD), is the best time to pay our respect to all the wonderful ladies in our lives and, why not, to all these awesome poker girls.
March 8 is a global day where we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is celebrated in many countries around the world. Throughout the history, women have played an important part of forming the history of humankind. However, IWD has only been observed since the early 1900’s where there was a time of great changes – the booming population growth and the rise of new ideologies. The old ways were beginning to seem outdated and the modern views of life and politics started to surface. This was the time when, slowly but surely, women started entering the political and economical arena. The beginning of the 20th century marked the birth of a modern woman as we know today.
So, what’s the best way to celebrate IWD? Gender equality aside, many women still appreciate receiving fresh flowers or fancy dinner invitations on that day. How can ladies resist when considerate men in their lives pay respect and want to celebrate the historic day with them? Some even take it a step further in their celebrations and make clear demonstrations of girl power. For example, the British Airways operated the UK’s biggest ever all-female flight to celebrate the upcoming date. The flight from London Heathrow to Glasgow took off on Monday, March 6 with 61 women involved – including baggage handlers, pilots, cabin crew, flight managers, loaders and push back teams, security, check in and airport teams.
However, even without this demonstration, we all know that women are capable of flying air planes and doing brain surgeries. In our opinion, the most important thing about the flight was the fact that the ladies had loads of fun together. Jealous here! Moreover, in today’s world, IWD should be about women appreciating each other – each other’s skills and life experience. How about that dinner out with your girls? It does sound good, doesn’t it?
What can we say about poker on International Women’s Day? Is playing with cards a part of the “men’s world”? Not really. Poker is a mind game, so any biological differences in physical strength do not matter. Instead, playing poker requires certain characteristics such as intelligence, strategic skills and, most importantly, interest in the game. Mind games are for everyone.
So, why aren’t there more women in poker? We could ask the same question about e.g. women and football. In today’s world, it is an individual choice whether to play or not. Nobody is forced to play, nobody is forced off the felt either. Anybody can play if they like it and they think they are good players. We, for sure, know some pretty bad-ass poker ladies who love cash games over tournaments. And we love it!
Happy International Women’s Day!
