The fun and games kept on going day two
April 1, 2016Saturday madness at Aspers Casino
April 3, 2016Three days in with a full weekend ahead, all signs from the previous days made us have high hopes to fill up the poker room and reach 30+ tables sometime during Friday evening/night. And just around midnight we reached that goal with tables running stakes from £1/£1 up to £25/£50 on the last feature table.
With Marc Convey back in the team after a days break we were covered for the first two slots in the commentary booth, which meant we could host a social activity outside of the casino. Partners, qualifiers, VIP players and other invited players met up at The Bat and Bull for some drinks and a friendly ping pong tournament. After a knock out format with 16 players battling t out for the pride, the final was eventually played between Swedish player Michael Graucob and the female Estonian player Maret Komarova. A tough duel ended with Michael edging out and winning with 2-1 in sets, turning the match around after initially losing the first set. Partners Guts Poker and NordicBet decided to hand the two players some poker gear and everyone joining in left the restaurant with smiles on their faces.
Loads of well known high(er) stakes players had announced their interest for £10/$25 PLO and the scheduled stream with £25/£50 NLH. But before we could sort out which names would play on what tables, we were originally planning to show both a £1/£1 and a £2/£5 NLH. When it was time to round off the lower out of these two games, a last minute decision from poker room manager John Scanlon and the festival team was taken to keep the table running. Players made a request to keep it running and some of the names that were set for the second table had decided to join other tables or make new Friday plans.
When time finally came to get the highest feature table of the whole festival started, the pre-registered players where undecided weather to play a £10/£25 PLO or the streamed one hosting £25/£50 NLH. In the end players like Leo “ISILDRooN” Nordin from Sweden and former WSOP Main Event runner-up Felix Stephensen opted for omaha, while we had Jussi Nevanlinna from Finland and homegrown player Matt Moss to mention a few leading the texas fanatics.
The stream had fun commentary from Björn “PokerSkull” Gustafsson and Norwegian guest Andreas “silvershibby” Berge. Different competitions with giveaways from partner RankingHero.com were playing out at the same time as pots where being splashed in front of our viewers. When all the dust had settled after a three hour battle, we could read the names of Carlos Sanchez and Gang Wang at the top of the list. Though the biggest winner of them all was Javier Perez Estevez, collecting a massive profit of 300bb+ after winning the biggest pot of the day in a preflop allin three-way showdown:
- Javier Perez Estevez was playing AA, covering the other two players
- David Pedro Leja had KK with £8,7k behind
- Paul Byrne with QQ and playing the shortest stack of £2,7k
The players chose to run it twice and although having to dodge four cards in two full boards, Javier managed to scoop the pot of £20,1k in the last hand of the night on the TV table. A sick setup and interesting hand, capping a great day here at Aspers Casino Stratford in the heart of London.
