May 5, 2017Day 2 in Gibraltar – Waking Up a Whale & Some Serious Poker Aka Casino’s Record Tied
May 19, 2017Cash Game Festival Gibraltar 2017 has started. Day 1 at Casino Sunborn started nice and sunny with many familiar faces from the previous festivals having had promised to fly in.
During the day, the team was at the casino, getting ready for the evening. The casino dealers were getting briefed on the upcoming evening – which included a short training session of Sviten Special poker game, partly overseen by the founder of Cash Game Festival Franke and Jason Glatzer from Pokernews. One by one, dealers of the world are getting educated in this poker variation, and then the word will be a better place in terms of poker, for sure, many Sviten fans would like to believe.
The opening bubbles and/or beer was served at 5 PM. A group of familiar Estonian faces – from our Tallinn stop in April – gathered to greet everybody, and to enjoy the refreshing drinks.
As more people gathered for the welcome drinks, the room filled with the excited talk of poker and travel. Everybody had a story of how they got to Gibraltar, how long was the travel etc., and quite many were keen on sharing that story with others. For example, our French correspondent and the festival vlogger, Maxime, discovered he was on the sa
me airplane with Mr and Mrs Soon-to-be-Moving-to-Poland-Due-to-Prop-Bet-with-Franke, Janar and Elora Kokk, only after they landed in Gibraltar. They were texting each other, informing of their arrival, only to discover they had just left the same airplane.
Here, you can read the full story of how Janar and Elora ended up having to move to Poland. It involved Janar losing to Franke in poker during Cash Game Festival. To make the prop bet matters even more interesting, the Polish media wrote about the bet. And then, apparently, the mayor of the little Polish town called Janar personally, to offer help with anything he could.
We are hoping that Janar and Elora will vlog the experience in Hrubieszów, Poland. What are the chances of any of us ever going to the town? Would be neat to see the place through their eyes. Also, looks like they might experience an official reception by the mayor. That is the current prediction based on the course of events.
The first poker table of Gibraltar stop was Sviten Special (stakes at £2/£2) with Franke and Michael Robinson, Betsafe’s Head of Poker, also sitting down to play. At some point, Michael declared on Facebook that he loved Franke’s money – “Three buy-ins up. Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk money – the best sort.” The story goes that Michael fell in love with the game of Sviten Special back in London in February, and has been practicing ever since. That explains him beating Franke, the guy who breathes Sviten.
On a different note. Good news from Betsson. Namely, the qualifications for Cash Game Festival’s Malta stop are open on Betsson. Follow the link https://promotions.betsson.com/cash-game-festival-malta/en to get to Betsson’s promotion for Malta. Good luck!
Also, at Gibraltar stop, players at Cash Game Festival can win a package to the next Cash Game Festival stop in Malta, and other smaller prices, via fun competitions involving play money, roulette and blackjack. Read more about the rues here.
We would like to show some love to PokerStrategy.com who found our daily festival-time Twitch live streams, and introduced these to their readers by sharing the stream on their site. They are planning on sharing all our Gibraltar streams. Brandon, get ready for even bigger audience.
Later in the evening, WSOP side event winner Hasan Alexander Anter from Sweden casually joined the TV table action at Cash Game Festival. He has WSOP gold bracelet from 2011. Nice to see the growing amount of hard-core poker players visiting the festival.
With Gibraltar stop, Cash Game Festival I hoping to break the Casino’s record of most simultaneously running poker tables. Looks like it is about to happen as the festival proceeds. The first night got the poker room buzzing which is always a good sign.
Day 2 morning will see players boarding a boat on the Spanish side, going out to the sea in search of whales and dolphins.
Yours,
Cash Game Festival Team
