Joueur de poker – Peter La Terra, Sviten Special au pied du sapin
December 15, 2017Interview Poker, Carrière et Vacances avec le Manager de 32Red Poker
December 20, 2017Nick Diaz is a Poker Manager at 32Red Poker. 32Red is a part of the 32Red online gaming operator that also runs the Casino of the Decade which is a popular online poker room with a deserved reputation for excellent software, graphics, user-friendly Customer Support and a smorgasbord of poker games. With the holidays almost knocking on the door, we thought it best to get to know this very friendly and likable Poker Manager a bit better.
Hello, Nick! How are you today?
Hey, I’m frazzled! Xmas time stresses me out, but it’s also my favorite time of the year … go figure.
32Red has very recently joined the Cash Game Festival. Are you excited about the collaboration?
Thrilled! Can’t wait to get on board and join the fun 😀
How did you first hear about our poker tour?
It was back in November 2016 while I was at the MPN Poker Tour event in Tallinn. You guys have come a long way since then!
What made you want to join our poker community?
I quickly grew fond of the concept behind the Cash Game Festival, and soon got to chatting with Franke (head honcho) who explained the ins and outs of the operation. It took us a while to take the plunge but I’m glad we joined.
What were your first impressions of a CGF event from a Poker Manager perspective?
My first thought was, how come no one’s thought of this before?! I didn’t have much time to fully submerge myself in the whole CGF experience, but I enjoyed the ‘family’ vibe among those running the show and I was particularly impressed with your production team and how well they captured the whole experience on camera.
What are your expectations for 2018 in terms of 32Red and the Cash Game Festival?
We started small on the MPN Poker Tour and now we are one of the best represented online poker rooms at their events. It would be nice to achieve the same with CGF at some point!
Would you tell us more about 32Red online brand?
There’s more than poker at 32Red. Our Casino product, for example, won the Casinomeister’s Casino of the Decade, which speaks for itself. We also cover the whole gaming spectrum in terms of sports betting, bingo, live casino, games, etc.
And what are the future goals at 32Red?
Well … with a successful tournament festival (the MPN Poker Tour) and now having partnered with the biggest cash game festival around (yes, that’s you guys), I’d say the sky is the limit! But what makes 32Red Poker so special is the community we have built over the years (note that this is my 15th year working for the company). Our main goal is to stand out from our competitors by providing an environment in which our players feel at home and as a part of the 32Red family – which is why live events are key in bringing us together to share lasting memories and experiences.
Will you personally be at our London stop on January 3rd-7th?
Let me have a look at flights …
You and poker – do you love the game and do you still find some time to play?
I’ve a love-hate relationship with poker (love to win, hate to lose), but I don’t play as much as I’d like to. I usually find time to play a small side event when I travel to live events with Team 32Red, but I hardly have time to play online. That said, I think my game has improved significantly, and I put that down to the live experience I’ve gained throughout the years.
What is your favorite poker variant? Were you ‘trained’ in Sviten Special in Tallinn?
I’m a Texas Hold’em kinda guy (usually tournaments), and I’m stubborn with it to the point I’ve ignored all other variants. Not yet tried Sviten.
What did you do before joining 32Red as a Poker Manager and what made join?
32Red was my first job after University, believe it or not. I started off as a Customer Support Representative and Poker was my favorite product. I remember other CS reps coming to me whenever any poker-related queries came through the door, and I soon started running the product.
The future of poker – your vision?
Poker has come a long way since the old days. It is no longer just a game, but rather an experience that can be enjoyed on and off the tables. In this rapidly expanding age of artificial intelligence, I believe that technology such as virtual reality will play an interesting role in shaping the future of poker.
In your opinion, what is the best way to learn how to play?
To acquire knowledge, one must study; to acquire wisdom, one must observe. This is especially true with poker. You can learn how to play in a few minutes, but it can take you a lifetime to master the ins and outs of the game. These days, we’re lucky to have social platforms such as Twitch, where players can watch how the pros do it and take note. I would recommend that viewers tune in to the Cash Game Festival’s twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/cashgamefestival.
How will a Poker Manager spend his Christmas holidays? Will there be some poker involved?
There will be lots of festive fun for our players at 32Red Poker, while I’ll also be having a trip with my family to EuroDisney.
What is the best time of year to play and why? Christmas?
Every day is the best time of year at 32Red.
What’s the best poker Christmas gift?
A fantastic package to the MPN Poker Tour, Morocco or CGF London, of course, with a ribbon on it!
What is the best advice you have received about life, career and poker?
Don’t let the latter two interfere with the first.
